About APEDA

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is a Government of India body under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. Established under the APEDA Act 1985, it is responsible for the promotion and development of export of scheduled agricultural products from India.

APEDA manages the Basmati Export Development Foundation (BEDF), which monitors rice quality, maintains the basmati DNA database, and ensures traceability from farm to port. Only APEDA-registered exporters can legally export basmati rice from India.

How do you ensure rice quality for export?
Every lot undergoes multi-stage quality control: pre-procurement inspection at the mill, in-house grading for grain length, broken percentage, moisture, and colour. Pre-shipment testing at NABL-accredited laboratories covers aflatoxin, pesticide residues, heavy metals, and moisture content. A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is provided before shipment. Fumigation is performed with aluminium phosphide as per ISPM-15 requirements.
Can you provide organic transaction certificates?
Yes. For organic rice shipments, we issue Organic Transaction Certificates (TC) per consignment under USDA NOP, EU Organic, or India Organic (NPOP) as required by the destination country.
