Defatted soy flour is the fine-milled, oil-free form of soybean: whole beans are flaked, the oil is removed by solvent extraction, and the white flakes are milled to a powder with 50% protein or more and no more than 1.5% fat. It is the workhorse soy protein ingredient for bakeries, noodle and pasta makers and meat processors, and it is also the raw material from which textured vegetable protein is extruded. Radiance Overseas supplies it from Indore, Madhya Pradesh in bulk, against the specification above and the FSSAI limits for solvent-extracted soya flour.
Part of our Soya & Soy Products range. Browse every specification in the soya products catalogue.
The Nitrogen Solubility Index (NSI) tells you how much of the protein is still soluble, which in turn tells you how much heat the flour has seen. We supply two grades.
The flour is available toasted or untoasted. State the NSI grade and the processing type in your enquiry and we will quote against it.
All three come from the same solvent-extracted white flakes and share the same non-textured nature. The difference is particle size. Defatted soya flakes are the whole flakes (6–16 mesh), defatted soya grits are coarsely milled (10–16 mesh), and defatted soy flour is milled fine enough that 97% passes a 100-mesh screen. None of them is textured; textured products such as TVP are a separate, extruded category.
Looking for the oil-bearing version? See full-fat soy flour.
Standard packing is 25 kg multiwall paper or PP bags, with 10 kg paper bags available. A 20ft container takes 17–18 MT and a 40ft high-cube takes about 24 MT. Shelf life is 12 months when the bags are kept sealed in a cool, dry store. Defatted flour holds up much longer than full-fat flour because the oil has been removed.
India does not permit commercial cultivation of GM soybean, so Indian soy is non-GM by origin; a non-GMO test report can be supplied per shipment. Each lot is tested and shipped with a Certificate of Analysis, with the Phytosanitary Certificate, Certificate of Origin, Packing List and Bill of Lading. Lead time is typically 10–15 days from order confirmation, subject to stock and inspection. Certifications held: APEDA (RCMC), FSSAI, EIC (Export Inspection Council), NPOP (India Organic, for organic grades) and ISO certified. Other certifications (e.g. Halal, Kosher) can be arranged to buyer requirement.

Protein 50% min (FSSAI minimum 48% on a dry basis), fat 1.5% max, moisture 9% max, crude fibre 4.2% max, total ash 7.2% max, acid-insoluble ash 0.4% max, and 97% through 100 mesh. Available toasted or untoasted in NSI 70 and NSI 20 grades.
NSI is the Nitrogen Solubility Index. NSI 70 is lightly heat-treated flour whose protein stays largely soluble, suited to functional uses. NSI 20 is toasted flour with much lower solubility and a blander flavour, suited to general food use and TVP feedstock.
Defatted soy flour is classified under HS 1208.10.00 (flours and meals of soya beans). Confirm the code with your customs broker for the destination country.
About 17–18 MT in a 20ft container and about 24 MT in a 40ft high-cube, packed in 25 kg bags. Exact loads depend on bag type and the stuffing plan.
The minimum order is 1 × 20ft FCL, which is about 17–18 MT. We supply in bulk only. Mixed SKUs are allowed under private label, with a minimum of one 20ft container.
Defatted soy flour keeps for 12 months in sealed bags stored cool and dry. Full-fat soy flour keeps its oil (18% fat min) and lasts 6–9 months. Defatted flour is higher in protein (50% min against 38% min).
