Is APEDA-certified Indian basmati rice authentic and safe for US consumers?
Yes. APEDA (Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) is India's government export authority. All basmati exported from India must be APEDA-registered (basmati shipments need an APEDA RCAC) and meet Indian GI (Geographical Indication) standards for basmati. Each lot is tested for: pesticide residues, heavy metals, aflatoxin, and microbiological parameters. COA from NABL-accredited lab provided with every shipment.
Can India export rice in 2026?
Indian basmati and non-basmati rice (white, parboiled, brown and broken) are in the Free export category; there is no minimum export price or export duty in force. Non-basmati shipments need contract registration with APEDA (RCAC, since 24 Sep 2025, DGFT Notification 33/2025-26) and basmati shipments an APEDA RCAC. Shipments to the EU, UK, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland need an EIC/EIA Certificate of Inspection.
