India's 2026 Coriander Harvest Reshapes Global Pricing
Coriander is one of India's most widely traded spice commodities, and the 2025-26 rabi season has delivered a bumper crop estimated at 420,000 MT — a 22% increase over the previous year's 344,000 MT. Rajasthan accounts for roughly 60% of national production, followed by Madhya Pradesh (18%) and Gujarat (12%), with Kota and Ramganj Mandi serving as the primary spot markets. The supply surge has pushed NCDEX coriander futures down to ₹7,200–₹7,800 per quintal, translating to FOB export prices of $1,050–$1,150 per MT for Eagle-grade seeds. This price correction offers significant procurement opportunities for importers who faced a tight market through most of 2025.
Grade Breakdown: Eagle, Scooter & FAQ Quality
Indian coriander seeds are graded primarily by size, color, and volatile oil content, with Eagle quality commanding the highest premium. Eagle-grade coriander features bold seeds above 3.5mm sieve size, bright green-brown color, and volatile oil content of 0.3–0.5%, making it preferred for whole-seed retail packing and premium grinding. Scooter grade (3.0–3.5mm) is the workhorse of the export market, priced $80–$120 below Eagle. FAQ (Fair Average Quality) coriander is widely used in industrial spice blending and powder manufacturing, currently trading at $850–$950 FOB. Importers targeting the Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian markets typically procure Scooter or FAQ grades.
With prices at a two-year low, importers should consider booking forward contracts for Q2–Q3 2026 delivery to lock in favorable rates. Request test reports for moisture (max 9%), volatile oil content, and EU MRL compliance — especially for pesticides like chlorpyrifos which faces zero-tolerance in the EU market.
Demand Outlook and Key Import Markets
Global coriander seed import demand is estimated at 85,000–90,000 MT annually, with India supplying roughly 55% of the traded volume. Malaysia remains the single largest buyer at ~12,000 MT per year, primarily for domestic grinding and re-export to ASEAN neighbors. The UAE imports approximately 8,000 MT, serving as a re-distribution hub for the broader GCC region. European demand — led by Germany, the UK, and the Netherlands — is smaller in volume (~6,000 MT combined) but commands significantly higher per-MT values due to stringent quality and certification requirements. The 2026 bumper crop has also increased availability of organic-certified coriander from Rajasthan.
