Key Insights for Importers

Plan your documentation 4 weeks before intended vessel departure. Phytosanitary inspection requires 2–3 days notice to PQA. NABL lab testing takes 5–7 days. Fumigation certificate requires 48 hours. Factor these into your production schedule to avoid rush charges and B/L delays.
India's Export Infrastructure: What Buyers Should Know
Export documentation management is increasingly digital in India. DGFT's e-commerce portal, ICEGATE for customs filing, and APEDA's e-certification platform have reduced documentary processing time from 3–5 days to 1–2 days for experienced exporters. The remaining bottleneck is the Phytosanitary Certificate — still a physical paper process requiring an inspector visit — but digital phytosanitary certificates are being piloted. For importers, the practical benefit is faster B/L cut-off compliance and fewer documentary discrepancies at destination customs.
