Indian Coffee Exporter to Italy — Robusta for Espresso Blends
Robusta Cherry and Robusta Parchment from Coorg, Chikmagalur and the Nilgiris — the body and crema Italian espresso blends are built on — plus Arabica Plantation and soluble coffee. Origin traceability documentation prepared for your EUDR due-diligence statement.
EU Compliance for Italian Coffee Importers
Coffee is one of the commodities covered by the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR, Regulation (EU) 2023/1115). As the operator placing goods on the EU market, your business files the due-diligence statement — we supply the origin and traceability documentation behind it, including estate-level sourcing records for every lot.
Every consignment carries a NABL-accredited Certificate of Analysis reporting ochratoxin A against the maximum levels in Regulation (EU) 2023/915, alongside moisture (max 12%), screen size distribution, defect count per ICO standards and pesticide residues to EU MRLs.
Organic lots ship with an Organic Transaction Certificate per consignment; India’s NPOP is recognised as equivalent to EU Organic, so no recertification is needed on arrival. Phytosanitary certification is issued through TRACES NT.

Italy Logistics, Ports and Order Sizes
We load at Mundra, JNPT and Chennai and ship CIF to Genoa, Trieste, Livorno and Naples. Transit is typically 18–22 days, with weekly sailings on the major carriers.
Green coffee moves by full container — 1 × 20' FCL is approximately 18–19 MT in 60 kg jute bags, with GrainPro liners available as a moisture barrier. Instant coffee and private-label programmes start at 500 kg, packed in vacuum-sealed 25 kg cartons or 1 MT flexi-bags. We do not quote LCL. Other country desks: USA, Germany, Canada, Netherlands.
Why Italian Roasters Buy Indian Robusta
Italian espresso is defined by body and crema, and that comes from Robusta in the blend. Indian washed Robusta — Robusta Parchment AA and AB in particular — carries a low-acid, chocolatey profile with a heavy mouthfeel, which is why it appears in so many traditional Italian bar blends alongside Brazilian and Central American Arabica.
India is one of very few origins growing Robusta under shade at altitude, hand-picked rather than strip-harvested. That shows up in the cup as a cleaner, less rubbery Robusta than the commodity Vietnamese material many blends default to — useful when you need crema and body without dragging the blend down.
Trieste has been the entry point for coffee into central Europe for over two centuries and remains the natural discharge port for our Italian consignments, with Genoa serving the north-west and Naples the south. We ship the same estate lots season after season from Coorg and Chikmagalur, so a blend approved this year is reproducible next year.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Robusta grades work best in an Italian espresso blend?
Robusta Parchment AA and AB are the usual choice: washed, shade-grown and hand-picked, they give crema and body without the rubbery note of commodity strip-harvested Robusta. Robusta Cherry AAA and AA suit blends where you want more chocolate and less acidity. Most Italian bar blends we supply sit between 20% and 40% Indian Robusta.
Can you hold the same estate lots across roasting seasons?
Yes. We source direct from named estates in Coorg and Chikmagalur and can reserve tonnage against an annual contract, so a blend approved this season is reproducible next season. Pre-shipment samples are couriered for cupping approval before the container is booked.
Which Italian port should we discharge at?
Trieste is the traditional coffee gateway to central Europe and our usual discharge for Italian consignments; Genoa serves the north-west and Naples the south. Transit from Mundra, JNPT or Chennai runs 18-22 days.
How is ochratoxin A handled for EU entry?
Every lot is tested at a NABL-accredited laboratory and reported against the maximum levels in Regulation (EU) 2023/915 on the Certificate of Analysis, issued before the container is sealed. Pesticide residues are tested to EU MRLs in the same report.
What does EUDR mean for our purchase?
Coffee is in scope of the EU Deforestation Regulation. As the operator placing goods on the EU market you file the due-diligence statement; we supply the origin and traceability documentation behind it, including estate-level sourcing records for each lot.
